2000m WORLD RECORD HOLDER
On Friday, August 8, the last Wanda Diamond League event of the season, Brussels' newly renovated King Baudouin Stadium, with its lightning-fast new track, was able to celebrate a world record thanks to the incredibly gifted Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the men's 2000m.
- After suffering the devastating blow of losing to a Briton twice in a row in the world 1500m final, Ingebrigtsen, who admitted at the time that he had been feeling off, has recovered in an amazing way.
- He recovered in Budapest to retain his world 5000m title and then took some time off in his hometown of Sandnes before setting out for more legendary activity.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen raised one finger in the air as he lined up, despite the fact that there was no wind to test.
- The target pace for the halfway point was 2:21, but by that point, it had strayed to 2:22.28.
- The legendary Norwegian, though, was off on his own mission once he final pacer moved aside with just over 600 meters to go. Ingebrigtsen appeared relaxed and at ease.
- As Jackob Ingebrigtsen drove around the final bend in attempt to break Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco's formidable record of 4:44.79 for the mile (3:43.13) and 1500m (3:26.00), which the eminently gifted young Norwegian already covets, the crowd erupted in applause and rose to their feet.
- Breaking a record is always enjoyable, according to Jacob Ingebrigtsen. "This counts as a world record, not the greatest in the world".
- I was aware that I could overcome this obstacle, but I wasn't sure how I would feel today because of an illness I had 10 days prior.
"However, I had a great race and felt great. This record wasn't that challenging for me, to be honest. It's really difficult to accomplish it alone, but my pacemakers gave me a lot of assistance".
